My route once leaving Brisbane, following small outback roads, I headed north to Darwin. Loading my motorcycle on to the ferry where I disembarked in Dili, East Timor. Island hopping my way through Indonesia, I eventually arrive in Jakarta, where I arranged to have my motorcycle disassembled to fit into the requirements of a shipping crate and send it by ship to India. Because shipping takes time, I meet up with friend in Sri Lanka and we rode around Sri Lanka on hired motorcycles.
After circumnavigating Sri Lanka, I meet up with my motorcycle in India. Starting from the south of India, I will make my way north to the Pakistan boarder. My route will cross Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Jordan and Israel I want to arrive in Egypt, I will begin the African part of my journey. First off I heading down the east coast to South Africa.
As important as the itinerary is, it is only one aspect of the adventure. While learning about the different cultures and their history, I would like to focus on female social dynamics, architecture and food. Each country has its own local traditions and unique practices that are expected from the women. I would like to adapt and understand these traditions and try to interact and fit in with the locals as much as possible. With this in mind, my goal of being home in 2 years flew past and I felt I needed more and more time in each country I passed.
My planned route for the future is to explore the rest of Southern Africa. Travelling through countries such as Namibia, Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Once I have completed this I would have been in Africa for over three years. I think it might be time for a change in culture. Who knows, I might end up on your door step!
